Chapter 4: Going Solo

Saturday August 2 - The squawking of seagulls echoed from a bedroom window where the young acolyte had stayed over the past months. As they sun's radiance crawled in quickly illuminating the entire room, thepoet was already awake but didn't get up from the bed. She squint her eyes when the rays hit her face. "Another day," thepoet sighed and then tilted her body facing the wall, wishing the sun to go away.

"Poet?" someone was at the door that gave a knock or two and called out to her. "Poet, are you there? It's me Ilog. I don't want to get off shore without saying my goodbyes. Open the door, please..." For a few seconds there were silence, Ilog once again knocked at the door and it slightly moved, it was open all those time. When he entered, thepoet was sitting on a chair by the window looking outside, seeing the sailors from the Izlude bay packing up carts as the other members of Ilog's guild already on the ship looking at the farthest sea.

Ilog walked close to the window as thepoet suddenly spoke, "It's starting, isn't it?" Ilog looked at her. "New lands are appearing and more monsters invading," still looking outside the window. "I understand the needs of your guild and I understand that you have your duty as it is written in the ecclesiastic history."

"You know your books well," Ilog hanged his head down. "I guess, you don't need me anymore. You've learned much and I know that you'll do fine without my guidance...but do not despair; I shall come back here and visit you from time to time. I know Kushana would hate it if we leave this place permanently."

"Ilog," A voice by the door echoed in the room. Kushana was standing by the door with an authoritative request that they must hurry.

"Farewell, Ilog," thepoet stood up, "And you too Kushana." Kushana nodded and smiled.

Quickly thepoet ran towards Kushana and gave her a huge embrace. "Both of you have been my Mentor and I am grateful."

"If you ever decide to go to the new lands," Kushana gently clasped thepoet into her arms as she continued, "be sure to look us up."

The two went down and onto the ship as thepoet followed them on the docks. Waving her hand goodbye as she whispered, "I will never forget you both. Please be safe."
Thepoet took the time stroll to Payon as she recalls the days of when she first started.
